Trunk Opens/key in ignition

Post by Teufelhund1969 » Thu Aug 22, 2019 12:28 pm

Hello all, I have an issue that has stumped me and 3 dealerships in my area...

My son has a 2004 Ford Taurus, it works great except for an issue that came up this past spring. When you insert the key into the ignition... even 3/4 of the way... the locks seem to activate up and down once and the trunk pops open. Now it has escalated where it will pop open when at will when driving down the road.

I am sure there is a short somewhere. Is there a way I can bypass this so it just opens with the key? Is there a "sort of simple fix" to this?

Thanks in advance

As I see it, unless or until you solve the problem, you have two choices:
1) Pull the fuse for the power door locks. Should be #22 in the passenger compartment fusebox; that one also happens to control the trunk release solenoid.
2) Disconnect the wiring from the trunk release solenoid itself. Unlike your doors, you can't relatch the trunk lid while you're going down the road.

Thank you sir, I ended up pulling the cable on the trunk latch, he now opens it with the key. He has to “rough it” like we used to before all this automatic crap started in basic equipped cars. I showed him my project rebuild in my 71 Formula and he could not believe how “basic” it looked. Lol
